George Gusman

GEORGE GUSMAN, 100, passed away peacefully at home in Waipahu on January 15, 2019.  He was born in Hakalau on Hawaii Island and grew up on the island of Maui.  In 1940 George joined the United States Army and served his country for 20 years before retiring from the military. He then dedicated another 20 years working for the Federal Government on Schofield Barracks in the Artillery Vehicle Repair Shop (Shop 5), as an Automotive Mechanic.

George had a passion for baseball, he coached and played in numerous leagues to include the Puerto Rican league.  After working for 40 years he continued to keep active and played Senior Softball until the age of 87.  In 1995 he was part of the Senior Softball team that captured the World Championship title. It was quite an accomplishment for this Hawaii Senior team where they all earned a Senior World Championship ring and it was something George was very proud of!

George was a devoted husband, father and papa to his family.  He is survived by his wife of 66 years Angeline (Angie), his son George Gusman Jr (Sheila Mae), daughters Joyce Gooman (Stuart) and Donna Gusman. He was Papa to eight- grandchildren and Great-papa to nine. 

His celebration of life will be held at Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary, Mauka Chapel on Wednesday, March 6, 2019. Visitation will be at 8:30 am, services at 9:45 am with lunch to follow.  Burial will be at 1:00 pm at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe. Casual attire, flowers welcome.

George has lived a long full life. He was always giving of his time to all who asked and he was such generous man.  His family was his treasure and he theirs.  His presences will be missed by those who knew him and especially by his loving family.
